South Carolina's State Museum wanted interactive fun to enhance their new State Parks exhibition. The Balance team created three interactive experiences to complement the exhibit dedicated to showcasing the natural beauty travelers can expect –and perhaps virtually experience – when visiting the parks looking for outdoor exploration and fun.

Caesars Head State Parks Binoculars Application

Mobile Application

Wanting to show visitors the grand views of Caesars Head State Park in South Carolina, the innovators at Balance Studios developed a way for guests of the State Parks exhibition to experience the breathtaking view in a virtual format. Partnering with the park system and Split Rock Studios, Balance created a virtual binocular application to give guests expanded content and the ability to view the gorgeous region, regardless of the weather. When visitors use the virtual binoculars, they navigate around an image of Caesars Head at their own pace; then can even see birds native to the region. The team incorporated so many beautiful details, that make the park a visitor favorite, and users move the viewfinder for further exploration of the gorgeous region. As they explore, information about specific sites populates with text, with information about various parts about the park. The team utilized Virtual Reality (VR) for the unique application, rather than an experience where an image target is needed. By employing the gyro functionality of the iPad at the exhibit, users are transported to the lookout across Caesars Head State Park, and they can interact with the virtual world. By ensuring the experience was ADA compliant, the creative team makes this fun interactive accessible to everyone, so people of all capabilities can experience the state park's natural beauty.

South Carolina State Parks Personality Touch-Screen

Decisions can be difficult, so the creative team at Balance developed a fun, interactive application to help want-to-be travelers decide which South Carolina Park to choose for their next visit. In partnership with Split Rocks Studios, the Balance team created a custom kiosk application that gives visitors a personality quiz so they can discover their State Park Personality. Asking fun questions such as what kind of trails visitors prefer, guests answer several questions that eventually result in one of six park personality types. The fun result? People have a better idea as to which South Carolina State Park their personality and likes match up with and perhaps, they will plan a trip.

Sunrise is one of the most beautiful times of the day, yet it is a sight that many miss. South Carolina State Parks and Split Rock Studios tasked the innovators at Balance to share the experience so users can witness the magical morning start against the stunning backdrop of the Hunting Island State Park. Balance created a custom kiosk application so guests can watch the sunrise in one of three ways. They can experience the breathtaking view as it naturally appears and progresses, choose the 30-second time lapse video, or, they can scroll through the time they desire by using the on-screen controls. The Balance team created a digital version of the traditional editing scrubber, which allows users to scroll smoothly though the video at any pace they choose.
