The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis (TCM) was creating their new permanent exhibit–American POP–they wanted to include an interactive poll that allowed visitors to share their thoughts about popular topics from American pop culture, how we shape it, and how it shapes us. The American POP Poll Touchscreen Application was born.
Visitors enter the exhibit and are met with the American POP Poll Touchscreen Kiosk. Visitors are invited to see how their opinion measures up to others by taking the poll. After answering three questions, a shareable dashboard displays each question’s POPular answers and the answers selected by the visitor. They can then share the results by sending a customized email that allows visitors to share directly to social media. The poll is also available via TCM’s website.
A second display is located above the kiosk to entice passersby and shows the dashboard with the latest totals and a custom fourth quadrant with an associated image and quote.
The entire quiz is updateable via a custom content management system. Administrators can edit the questions, answers, and images associated with each directly within the CMS, as well as the second display’s fourth quadrant. This allows TCM to regularly change poll topics based on relevant events and temporary exhibits located near the American POP exhibit.
The data from the submissions are saved into the CMS. Data includes country and state (if located in the United States), whether they are taking the poll at the museum or on the web, name, and email. This data is directly connected to TCM’s Salesforce database, allowing an easy link from the poll submissions to creation of marketing lists.
