Sí, se puede
– or Yes, we can – is the iconic phrase of an iconic woman: Dolores
Huerta, the subject of the Smithsonian Institution's Traveling
Exhibition. Trusted to tell a more thorough story of the incredible
activist and voice for National Farm Workers fighting for human rights,
the storytellers at Balance helped bring Huerta's impact to light.
Unlike displays in brick and mortar museums, traveling exhibits often
lack resources such as video screens to show content, but the creative
team was unphased. They created an app that would complement the already
fascinating exhibit. Upon entering, guests download the free mobile
application from the iTunes Store or Google Play to access additional
content not available on-site.
As viewers explore, they are encouraged to
locate graphics that highlight the additional information. Using
various markers, users can watch videos of Huerta and others impacted by
her contributions, choosing either English or Spanish. Even better, the
app can be used well beyond a guest's visit, in classrooms or at home so
the edu-taining can be shared–just as all good stories should be.
