Boehringer Ingelheim – Catherine Turner

Healthcare | Tradeshow

With an international audience of over 20,000, Germany-based pharmaceutical company, Boehringer Ingleheim, knew the importance of standing out at the biggest show in respiratory medicine, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress. And through a strategic partnership with London-based Catherine Turner and the innovators at Balance, they did just that.

The Balance team also developed an augmented reality application to provide scientific data and clinical trial results of Boehringer Ingelheim's new kinase inhibitor, OFEV. With life-size panels in the booth, users are given an iPad to use to bring the panels to life. Once activated, visitors can choose to explore by reading the information as traditional text, or they can explore using the panels so statistics and detailed information flow onto the screen to create an easily digestible version of the advanced information.

Respimat Skeleton Mirror Experience

Volumetric Augmented Reality Application

The global partnership joined forces to highlight the pharmaceutical leader's latest inhaler, Respimat, and created the Respimat Skeleton Mirror Experience: an on-screen skeleton that mirrored trade show attendee's actions. But it did more than just that--it drew the healthcare professionals into the booth to have fun and to learn. Once engaged, and after a little moving and marveling as the on-screen skeleton mirrored their every motion, the experience shows the difference Respimat can make to their patient's respiratory health. An animation shows the skeleton “using” the Respimat inhaler and speaks to how the inhaler requires significantly less inhalation effort. It illustrates the slow velocity and long duration of the mist, which helps a higher proportion of the drug reach areas of the lungs.

The Idea

Engage, educate, and showcase the effectiveness of the Respimat inhaler and oral kinase inhibitor, OFEV, through a unique, interactive trade show experience that would standout at one of the largest medical showcases in the world.

Services

Taking together to new levels, we were honored to serve on this global team. From idea to execution, to providing on-site tech support to ensure that the experiences went smoothly, it just felt right to be there to help engage attendees and show off that innovation-thing that we do best (which helped draw more attention to the booth as well). Flawless technology, combined with on-site support, the exhibition was one of the most well-attended of the show.

The Result

The booth was so well-attended, administrators had to shorten the skeleton experience to ensure that everyone waiting was able to have a chance to use it. The AR app was such an effective tool, it will be used again in the next ERS Congress.
