When Kimberly-Clark and The Karma Group of Green Bay unveiled Cottonelle’s clever new line of products created for children, they turned to Balance Studios for conception, design, and programming of a fun, interactive “banner ad” campaign to help spread the word.
The ad banners were commissioned to familiarize consumers with the ‘Cottonelle for Kids’ brand and to highlight innovative aspects of Cottonelle’s new products, including puppy-printed rolls of toilet tissue and brightly-colored tubs that dispense moist wipes one sheet at a time. These products were specifically created to help kids learn to use just the right amount every time.
To convey this concept to the public, Balance developed two distinct banner campaigns:
Product Games:
Not just one, but two interactive online games were programmed within a single, expanding Flash banner ad that opened downward when engaged by the user, providing room for game play. Each of the games could be played repeatedly without having to leave the original web page hosting the ad. Both games were designed so that the user would physically interact with different ‘Cottonelle for Kids’ products.

“Puppy Ad Invasion” Banner:
The ‘Ad Invasion’ banner presents two ‘Cottonelle For Kids’ products in an entertaining fashion…
When the vertically-formatted banner initially appears onscreen, it seemingly occupies just the top half of its ad space (and a fake ad in the area below gives the appearance that there is a patch of open advertising space for rent.) Cottonelle’s mascot Puppy enthusiastically unrolls a paw-print toilet tissue roll, and it drops down, down, down — beyond the perceived “bottom boundary” of the ad. The Puppy then trots right through the side of the banner and “invades” the space in the ad beneath to demonstrate yet another ‘Cottonelle for Kids’ product.
